Building Castle Nocturnia Lego 71486 : Day 1

For our birthday we got a tonne of LEGO sets! Some of them were doubles, so our mom let us trade them in to her. She took us to the LEGO store in Calgary and there was one huge set on sale. It was Castle Nocturnia. We picked it because it came from our favourite show, LEGO Dreamzzz. It also had sooo many minifigures. That was pretty exciting too!

In the show, Castle Nocturnia is the home of Phil the Manticore (a manticore is a imaginary creature that is a mix of a lion and scorpion and has wings). To get into the castle you have to dodge the Manticore who tries to freeze you using his tail.

Today we started building it!

When we opened the box it was really awesome. It had so many bags. 17! And the instruction booklets were big too! This is the biggest LEGO set we ever had.

In bag 1, we got to build Matteo and in bag 2 we got to build Izzie. They are characters from Dreamzzz, they are the heroes of the show. Matteo is holding his hour glass and a Z-blob sword.

Izzie has really cool purple and blue hair and is holding a crystal sword. She has a fabric cape and ripped skirt.

Alex built bag 1 and 2, it was pretty easy and didn't take too long. These bags made Phil the Manticore! He has pretty cool wings (you had to use lots of stickers on them). The face and tail look pretty too!

These two bags could be a LEGO set all by itself!

Dom then got to work building bags 3 and 4. Looks like this is the beginning of the castle. This part was ok, you can see how far I got in the picture above. The throne is pretty cool and our mom loves the little frog pond tucked inside.

The coolest part though, is that if you turn it sideways, there are stairs to climb. The lady working at the LEGO store told us this castle was special because you can turn it different ways and there are always stairs heading up.

Mom confirms she told us it was like an M. C. Escher drawing. She showed me a picture of one of his drawings and I agree.

We are so excited to build some more on this project and share it on our new blog!
